Mary E. Gardner has been licensed to practice in the State of Illinois since 1985. She is also admitted to practice before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and federal trial courts in the Northern District of Illinois, the Central District of Illinois, and the Eastern District of Michigan. She has a law degree from the DePaul College of Law in Chicago, from which she graduated with honors. She clerked for Justice Robert Chapman Buckley in the First District Illinois Appellate Court.
Today, Ms. Gardner concentrates her practice on real estate transactions, estate planning, and business set-ups and needs. She also defends actions based on the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act, 7 U.S.C. § 499(e), and the implementing regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 7 C.F.R. § 46.1 et seq. (the “PACA”).
As an attorney, Ms. Gardner has been in private practice and worked at several law firms in Chicago for most of her career as an attorney. She also worked in-house at a Chicago surety company. She has experience in litigation, both in federal and state courts, and bankruptcy law. She currently have a solo practice in Kane County, Illinois.
Ms. Gardner has been an adjunct professor in the post-graduate Military Psychology program for Adler University since 2015 and is now a senior adjunct professor. She developed and wrote the course on Mental Health Law and the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, as well as Ethics, Morality and Social Justice in the Military. I has been named as a “Star” faculty member by the Director of Student Experience & Academic Advising because of her active engagement and problem-solving techniques with students.
Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Gardner was a journalist with The City News Bureau of Chicago, the storied local news service covering news in Chicago and its collar counties. She also freelanced for several newspapers. In undergraduate school at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Ms. Gardner majored in both journalism and philosophy.
